Blue Amazon

If you followed the Progressive / Epic House Scene from the mid-nineties onwards you will have heard of the name “Lee Softley” / “Blue Amazon”. Blue Amazon broke on to the scene around 94 / 95 with their debut single on the legendary “Jackpot Records” titled “Four Seasons”.

The single was a huge hit with the likes of John Digweed & Sasha through to DJs like Carl Cox and started a new phase of combining Techno influences with the current progressive trend of using lush piano and string based elements.

Blue Amazon followed the single “Four Seasons” with a string of other releases including “Star Of David”,“The Blessing” and the NO 1: club single “No Other Love”(featuring Vicky Webb).

The act remixed everyone from Sasha, Seal, Bedrock, Jayn Hanna through to pop/ indie acts like Placebo, Skunk Anansie, Erasure, Blackgrape and Curve. The debut Blue Amazon album “The Javelin” was also recorded and signed / released with Sony Music / Jackpot around the world.

Live and DJing gigs included the major festivals Creamfields, Tribal Gathering, and Phoenix. Touring on Sasha and Digweeds “Northern Exposure Tour”. Overseas dates included the USA, Mexico, Germany, Oslo amongst others.

After a successful period and towards the end of the nineties it was time to experiment in developing the Blue Amazon sound further. There was the first Blue Amazon mix CD recorded for “Nokturnel Sessions” in the USA. Blue Amazon recorded a number of guitar based radio / indie singles (with remixes) for “Subversive Records”. Titles included “Coming Home”, “Breathe” and “LongWay Home”. Convert Recordings was started as a home for limited edition releases and deeper sounding club tracks from BA and other artists. Remixes of the likes of “New Order” “Soul Wax” “Inspiral Carpets” were completed and the darker breakbeat recordings such as BA’s “5000ft and “The Lights Go Out.

The project has continued both on the recording and DJ gig front. Recent projects have included the deep house influenced “Fire Trax ep” on Convert which was hailed by house legend “Robert Owens” as excellent. The tech house slammer “Unite” also on Convert was hammered by Carl Cox and he also featured it on the UK based film “You Instead” + There’s the forth coming “Your Voice ep” “Don’t Be Afraid Of Love & No Other Love remixes.
